Adaptive Pricing shows overseas customers your price in their own currency - by card or a local method like DuitNow, PayNow, QRPh, QRIS, or VietQR. Merchants who turn it on see international revenue grow by over 10% on average. You’re still paid out in your home currency, every time.

THE PROBLEM

Have overseas customers? They can now pay without you lifting a finger.

Have overseas customers? They can now pay without you lifting a finger.

Have overseas customers? They can now pay without you lifting a finger.

Your customer is in Manila. Your price is in Singapore dollars. Guess who abandons checkout? When the customer can't tell what they're actually being charged and hesitates, you lose a sale.

Adaptive Pricing removes that friction automatically, showing every overseas customer a price they recognise, while every payment request you create stays priced in your own home currency, with no separate link to manage per market.

From your price to their currency, in four automatic steps

From your price to their currency, in four automatic steps

From your price to their currency, in four automatic steps

You price in your home currency exactly as you do today - no separate link per market. Adaptive Pricing handles detection, conversion, and payment method selection the moment a customer opens checkout, with the rate locked for that session. Card still works too, just priced in the customer’s own currency.

frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about Adaptive Pricing

Frequently asked questions about Adaptive Pricing

Frequently asked questions about Adaptive Pricing

Everything businesses need to know before enabling Adaptive Pricing at checkout.

What is Adaptive Pricing?

Adaptive Pricing is a HitPay checkout feature that lets online merchants keep pricing in their home currency while international customers automatically see and pay in their own local currency and preferred local payment methods, such as DuitNow, PayNow, QRPh, QRIS, or VietQR. The merchant always receives their payout in their home currency.

Which customers see the currency selector?

Only customers whose detected country maps to a currency that differs from the merchant’s default currency. Domestic customers, whose currency matches the merchant’s default, see the standard checkout with no currency selector.

How is the exchange rate determined?

The rate is based on the mid-market exchange rate at the time the checkout page loads. The FX rate and associated FX cost are borne by the customer - the merchant always receives their payout in their home currency. The rate is locked for the duration of that checkout session and refreshes only when the customer reloads the page.

Does enabling Adaptive Pricing cost anything extra?

No. Standard payment processing fees apply as normal, and international cards are charged at the standard higher international-card rate. Non-card cross-border payment methods usually cost the merchant less per transaction than a card payment. The FX rate and FX cost are borne by the customer, not the merchant.

What happens if a customer’s currency is not supported?

If the detected currency is not supported, or it matches the merchant’s default currency, the checkout falls back to showing only the merchant’s default currency and payment methods - no currency selector is shown, and the customer pays exactly as a domestic customer would.

Does Adaptive Pricing work with API-created payment requests?

Yes. Payment requests created via the Payment Request API also support Adaptive Pricing on the hosted checkout, as long as Adaptive Pricing is enabled in Checkout Customisation settings. The localised_pricing parameter enables currency selection on the hosted checkout page.

Does Adaptive Pricing work with recurring billing or subscriptions?

No. Adaptive Pricing is currently available for one-time hosted checkout payments only. Recurring billing and subscription charges are out of scope for this feature.

What is the payout timing for payments collected through Adaptive Pricing?

Cross-border payments processed via Adaptive Pricing are credited to the merchant’s HitPay Balance on a next business day basis in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

Where is Adaptive Pricing not available?

Adaptive Pricing is not available on the default payment link on a merchant’s account, or on open-amount payment links that have no fixed amount set. It supports hosted checkout, standard payment links with a fixed amount, and API-created payment requests.

How do I turn on Adaptive Pricing?

Go to Settings > Payment Methods and connect the cross-border payment methods to support (partner review takes 3–5 business days). Then go to Settings > Checkout Customisation > Adaptive Pricing and turn on Enable Adaptive Pricing. Save - all hosted checkout sessions activate Adaptive Pricing for international customers automatically.

How do businesses test Adaptive Pricing before going live?

Businesses can simulate a specific country by appending a "+location_XX" suffix to a test customer’s email, where XX is a two-letter ISO country code - for example, [email protected] for Indonesia. Entering this in the Payment Request API’s email field, or in the dashboard’s send-by-email flow, makes the checkout present currency and pricing exactly as a customer from that country would see it.

Which cross-border payment methods can appear at Adaptive Pricing checkout?

HitPay surfaces relevant local payment methods based on the customer’s detected country, including DuitNow (Malaysia), PayNow (Singapore), QRPh (Philippines), QRIS (Indonesia), VietQR (Vietnam), and other supported cross-border methods. Merchants see their available methods in the HitPay Dashboard under Payment Methods.
