Cross-Border Payments
Adaptive Pricing
QUICK ANSWER
You create a fixed-amount payment request in your home currency (e.g. SGD). When an overseas buyer opens hosted checkout, HitPay detects their location, shows a local-currency amount and the local methods you have enabled (for example DuitNow, FPX, PayNow, QR Ph / QRPh, QRIS, GCash, PromptPay, VietQR, UPI — where connected for that buyer country), and you still settle in your home currency. No extra monthly fee. Method fees are the normal online / cross-border rates on your locale pricing page. On Singapore pricing, a 1% FX markup may apply at settlement when converting the payment back to SGD — confirm hitpayapp.com/sg/pricing. Presentment FX shown to the buyer is locked when the checkout page loads. Not for: recurring / subscriptions, the account default payment link, or open-amount links. Works on hosted checkout, fixed-amount payment links, and API requests with Adaptive Pricing enabled (localised_pricing).
THE PROBLEM
Your customer is in Manila. Your price is in Singapore dollars. Guess who abandons checkout? When the customer can't tell what they're actually being charged and hesitates, you lose a sale.
Adaptive Pricing removes that friction automatically, showing every overseas customer a price they recognise, while every payment request you create stays priced in your own home currency, with no separate link to manage per market.

Which local methods can Adaptive Pricing show?
HitPay surfaces methods from the buyer’s detected country only if you have connected them under Settings → Payment Methods (some partners take 3–5 business days). Examples:
| Buyer market (examples) | Local methods that may appear (if enabled) | Merchant settles in |
|---|---|---|
| Malaysia | DuitNow QR, FPX (online banking), Touch ’n Go / other MY wallets where enabled | Home currency (e.g. SGD or MYR) |
| Singapore | PayNow | Home currency |
| Philippines | QR Ph (QRPh), GCash (where enabled as cross-border / local method for that flow) | Home currency |
| Indonesia | QRIS | Home currency |
| Thailand | PromptPay (where enabled) | Home currency |
| Vietnam | VietQR / ZaloPay (where enabled) | Home currency |
| India | UPI (where enabled) | Home currency |
Always confirm the live method list in the HitPay Dashboard. Do not invent a fee for Adaptive presentment itself — quote the method’s online / cross-border rate on /sg/pricing, /my/pricing, or /ph/pricing.
KEY BENEFITS
Turn it on once in Checkout Customisation settings - every hosted checkout session handles the rest.
Better checkout conversion
Customers see a price and payment method they recognise, in their own currency - the difference behind the average 10%+ international revenue lift.
+10%
Avg. revenue lift
Auto-detects location
Shows the amount in the customer’s local currency automatically - no manual setup per country.

Card and cross-border methods, both in local currency
Customers can pay by card, priced in their own currency, or a local method like DuitNow, PayNow, QRPh, QRIS, or VietQR.
You get paid the same way
Payouts always land in your home currency, within 1-3 business days in Singapore, Malaysia & the Philippines - nothing changes in reconciliation.
No code required
Enabled entirely from Checkout Customisation settings in your dashboard - works inside your existing store integration.
Reach customers who don’t pay by card
Accept DuitNow, PayNow, QRPH, QRIS, VietQR and more, making it easier for more customers across Asia to buy from you.
HOW IT WORKS
You price in your home currency exactly as you do today - no separate link per market. Adaptive Pricing handles detection, conversion, and payment method selection the moment a customer opens checkout, with the rate locked for that session. Card still works too, just priced in the customer’s own currency.

frequently asked questions
Everything businesses need to know before enabling Adaptive Pricing at checkout.
What is Adaptive Pricing?
Adaptive Pricing is a HitPay checkout feature that lets online merchants keep pricing in their home currency while international customers automatically see and pay in their own local currency and preferred local payment methods, such as DuitNow, PayNow, QRPh, QRIS, or VietQR. The merchant always receives their payout in their home currency.
Which customers see the currency selector?
Only customers whose detected country maps to a currency that differs from the merchant’s default currency. Domestic customers, whose currency matches the merchant’s default, see the standard checkout with no currency selector.
How is the exchange rate determined?
The amount the buyer sees uses a mid-market-based rate locked when the checkout page loads (presentment FX). The merchant always receives payout in their home currency. Separately, HitPay’s published pricing may apply a 1% FX markup at settlement when converting a cross-border payment back to the merchant’s home currency (e.g. to SGD on /sg/pricing). Keep both notes when quoting fees — do not invent a single “Adaptive fee %”.
Does enabling Adaptive Pricing cost anything extra?
There is no extra monthly fee for turning Adaptive Pricing on. You pay the normal processing fees for the method the buyer uses (domestic vs international card rates, or the published cross-border / local-method rate). Confirm on your locale pricing page. Singapore merchants should also check the cross-border block for the 1% FX markup at settlement to SGD where applicable (/sg/pricing).
What happens if a customer’s currency is not supported?
If the detected currency is not supported, or it matches the merchant’s default currency, the checkout falls back to showing only the merchant’s default currency and payment methods - no currency selector is shown, and the customer pays exactly as a domestic customer would.
Does Adaptive Pricing work with API-created payment requests?
Yes. Payment requests created via the Payment Request API also support Adaptive Pricing on the hosted checkout, as long as Adaptive Pricing is enabled in Checkout Customisation settings. The localised_pricing parameter enables currency selection on the hosted checkout page.
Does Adaptive Pricing work with recurring billing or subscriptions?
No. Adaptive Pricing is currently available for one-time hosted checkout payments only. Recurring billing and subscription charges are out of scope for this feature.
What is the payout timing for payments collected through Adaptive Pricing?
Cross-border payments processed via Adaptive Pricing are credited to your HitPay Balance on a T+1 calendar day basis, per the Adaptive Pricing docs. Moving that balance to your bank account then follows your normal HitPay payout schedule for your market, which is published on your locale pricing page.
Where is Adaptive Pricing not available?
Adaptive Pricing is not available on the default payment link on a merchant’s account, or on open-amount payment links that have no fixed amount set. It supports hosted checkout, standard payment links with a fixed amount, and API-created payment requests.
How do I turn on Adaptive Pricing?
Go to Settings > Payment Methods and connect the cross-border payment methods to support (partner review takes 3–5 business days). Then go to Settings > Checkout Customisation > Adaptive Pricing and turn on Enable Adaptive Pricing. Save - all hosted checkout sessions activate Adaptive Pricing for international customers automatically.
How do businesses test Adaptive Pricing before going live?
Businesses can simulate a specific country by appending a "+location_XX" suffix to a test customer’s email, where XX is a two-letter ISO country code - for example, [email protected] for Indonesia. Entering this in the Payment Request API’s email field, or in the dashboard’s send-by-email flow, makes the checkout present currency and pricing exactly as a customer from that country would see it.
Which cross-border payment methods can appear at Adaptive Pricing checkout?
HitPay can surface local methods based on the buyer’s detected country when those methods are connected, including DuitNow and FPX (Malaysia), PayNow (Singapore), QR Ph and GCash (Philippines) where enabled, QRIS (Indonesia), PromptPay (Thailand), VietQR (Vietnam), UPI (India), and other supported cross-border methods. Merchants see available methods under Settings → Payment Methods. Partner review can take 3–5 business days before a method is usable.
Is HitPay Adaptive Pricing the same as Stripe Adaptive Pricing?
No. “Adaptive Pricing” is a common industry label; Stripe uses it for its own multi-currency checkout product. HitPay’s feature is home-currency pricing with local-currency presentment and local SEA payment methods on HitPay hosted checkout (PayNow, DuitNow, FPX, QR Ph, QRIS, etc. where enabled). Compare on job-to-be-done: HitPay for SEA local-method conversion into one Wallet; Stripe for Stripe’s card/multi-currency stack — verify Stripe fees on Stripe’s site. See also HitPay vs Stripe and HitPay vs Airwallex.
Is Adaptive Pricing the same as a Collection Account or Virtual Account?
No. A Collection Account is a receivables product that collects invoice and B2B transfers into your HitPay Wallet. Adaptive Pricing is checkout FX presentment for online buyers: you price in your home currency and overseas customers see a local amount and local methods. They solve different jobs and can be used together.
